Pet hair can get very frustrating, especially when it gets stuck in your carpet and furniture and it seems impossible to remove. There are a few different ways to get rid of pet hair and help to keep your home clean. However, it won't magically disappear. The best thing you can do is clean and vacuum your home regularly and make sure your pet is well groomed. If you don't know how to get rid of pet hair, here are some clever tricks and cleaning methods that might help.
Get A Powerful Vacuum Cleaner
In order to pick up as much pet hair as possible you need a powerful vacuum cleaner. Some of the less powerful models simply don't have the suction to remove pet hair, and it all gets left in the carpet. If you have very hairy pets then it might be worth investing in a high quality vacuum that will make your life much easier.
Regular Sweeping/Vacuuming
You will need to sweep and vacuum very regularly if you have a pet that sheds a lot. At least once a week if not more often. This will keep on top of the hair and prevent big build ups that can be very difficult to remove.
Groom Your Pet
Grooming your pet regularly can really help reduce the amount of hair they lose. Give them regular baths and brush their coat on a regular basis. Brushing will get rid of some of the dead hair and remove their undercoat, resulting in less hair being shed. Grooming tools such as a deshedder and undercoat rake are particularly good at removing lots of hair.
Clean Carpets/Pet Fumigation
If you are renting a property and you have pets then your landlord might ask you to have the carpets cleaned and fumigated when you leave. This is because it helps to get rid of pet hair and the fumigation kills any parasites that may be in your carpets. It can be useful to have your carpets professionally cleaned every few months as this will get rid of a lot of the pet hair and make your carpets seem brand new.
Masking Tape
Masking tape can be quite good at picking up pet hair. Attack some masking tape to a ruler and run it along your carpets and furniture. This should pick up some of the pet hair. Then when the tape is full of hair, take it off and replace it with a fresh piece.
Switch To Wooden Floors
Although this isn't always an option, if you can, choose wooden floors over carpets. It's so much easier to clean pet hair from wooden floors, all you have to do is sweep or hoover and the hair can be removed quickly and easily. Hairs are more likely to get stuck in carpets and are more difficult to remove with a vacuum.
Pumice Stone
Some people suggest using a pumice stone to collect hair from carpets and upholstery. This technique might work but you need to be careful not to damage your carpets.
Rubber Gloves
Anything rubber is quite good at picking up pet hair. If you are removing pet hair by hand use rubber gloves as it will be easier to collect more hair.
Damp Sponge
Using damp sponge is quick way to remove excess pet hair. Use it to pick up stands of hair from your sofa.
Wash Your Pet's Bed
Washing your pets bedding regularly will help to reduce the amount of hair in your home. A lot of hair can gather in their bedding over time and spread all over the house.
Avoid Clutter
The more clutter there is in your home the more pet hair is likely to build up in hidden areas. Keeping your rooms tidy and free from clutter can help reduce the amount of pet hair in your home.
