Although these crossbreeds may have existed naturally for many years, intentional breeding began in America during the 1990s. The Aussiedoodle is a cross between the Australian shepherd and the poodle. Both of these breeds are highly intelligent and so it should come as no surprise that Aussiedoodles are known as the Einstein dogs.
Aussiedoodle breed characteristics
Brainy, energetic and somewhat goofy, Aussiedoodles tend to be great fun. They love playing and relish long walks. Aussiedoodles are incredibly smart and so are very easily bored. They form strong bonds with humans and may attach themselves to one person in particular. These dogs are almost never aggressive but can become destructive in the home if not provided with constant mental stimulation.
As you would expect with a crossbreed, Aussiedoodles vary enormously in appearance. Their size will depend on whether they are the offspring of a standard or miniature poodle and their coats can be curly or wavy and almost any colour.

However, they are highly active bundles of energy which need a significant amount of exercise. Their superior intelligence means that they also require constant stimulation and so they are best suited to owners with plenty of time to devote to their care.
Aussiedoodles are adaptable dogs which can live anywhere but they will be happiest in homes with gardens and prefer living where they have ready access to the great outdoors. Potential owners who work from home should bear in mind that these dogs could be serious distractions!
