If Dinosaurs Were Dogs What Breed Would They Be?

It’s a pretty strange comparison, but it’s fascinating to consider if dinosaurs were dogs, what would they be? In other words, which breed of dog is each type of dinosaur most like? You can draw your own comparisons and come up with your own ideas.

Feel free to tell us your suggestions in the comment section below. We have used our imagination and knowledge of different dog breeds to assign each dinosaur a dog breed they might be. We don’t live in a world where dinosaurs are dogs, but if we did, this is what it might look like.

T-Rex - Neapolitan Mastiff

The Mastiff is an ancient breed, the Kennel Club describes Neapolitan's as a ‘formidable guard dog.’ They are sometime stubborn, can be protective and are fearless, dominant dogs. Their bold tendencies and enormous, stocky and powerful appearance are all reasons why we think a T-Rex would be a Neapolitan Mastiff. The Neapolitan Mastiff has also served as a war dog, which makes them brave warriors just like the mighty T-Rex.

Velociraptor - Doberman

Velociraptor's are stealthy, aggressive and extremely intelligent. They might not have the size of the T-Rex but that doesn’t make them any less deadly. Dobermans, like Velociraptors are very agile and athletic and will do anything to protect their pack.

Diplodocus - Great Dane

The Diplodocus is said to be the longest animal to grace the Earth. Great Dane’s are enormous dogs with very long legs and thick necks, just like the Diplodocus. Despite overpowering size, the Diplodocus is a gentle giant, as seen in the new Jurassic Park Film ‘Jurassic World’. Great Dane’s are also gentle giants and are gentle, friendly and sometimes reserved.

Triceratops - Bulldog

The Triceratops is built like a tank, and it isn’t afraid to be bold and defend itself. Bulldogs are just like this, they are stubborn dogs with a mind of their own. They are also stocky and strong just like the Triceratops.

Pterodactyl - Greyhound

It’s hard to compare a flying dinosaur to a dog, but if we absolutely had to choose a breed for the Pterodactyl, it would be a Greyhound. Greyhounds are the fastest dog breed, and they can run so quickly that it sometimes seems like they are flying. Also, most people assume the Pterodactyl is small, but it was actually quite large, as is the Greyhound.

Stegosaurus - Rhodesian Ridgeback

We have to compare the Stegosaurus to the mighty Rhodesian Ridgeback. The Stegosaurus has armour along its back, which can be compared to the ridge on the back of a Ridgeback.

Ankylosaurus - Bull Terrier

The Ankylosaurus would probably be a Bull Terrier. Both these animals are short, strong and stocky. Despite their fearsome appearance, Bull Terriers are actually very sweet natured.
