Dog Kibble and Bankrupt Stock

Canadian Man Buys a Pet Store’s Entire Stock of Dog Kibble

Food is a major expense for animal rescue centres and they are always looking for a helping hand. Thankfully many people are incredibly generous in donating tins of dog kibble and bags of food so that rescued animals don’t go hungry. There are also many kind folks who give pet food to food banks so that pet owners in financial difficulty can continue to feed their animals. Few people, however, go the lengths that one Canadian gentlemen did recently.

Dog Kibble Heading for Landfill

Sean Squires from Newfoundland had heard that a local pet store was closing down. Their insurance company had vetoed the store donating their stock of pet food directly to charity. The food was heading for landfill as there was so much left. Mr Squires realised that the situation presented an excellent opportunity to help rescued animals. He walked into the shop and purchased their entire stock of cat and dog kibble and then donated it to various local shelters. What a man!

Bargain Dog Kibble

The 570 bags and cans of food included puppy food and senior dog food so all hounds could be catered for. Mr Squires purchased $13,000 worth of food for $3,000. When questioned about his actions he commented that "I thought it was the normal thing to do". At Time for Paws, we think that it was an extraordinary thing to do. Squires was so keen to help that he turned up just three minutes after the store opened on its final day of trading. The staff were relieved that the food would not be wasted.

Helping Strays

Sean Squires said that he was surprised to be contacted by the media following his purchase. He had lived in Qatar for several years where there are many stray animals. People there are happy to help them and so he was shocked that his efforts to help animals in Canada were so newsworthy.

The Squires Cat Family

Sean has quite a job on his hands looking after his own animals as he has nine cats at home! These were all strays that he took on over the years. He rescued three of them from the streets of Doha, Qatar. He is clearly a man with a big heart when it comes to animals as he claims that he isn’t even a cat person!
The food that he purchased will certainly make a huge difference to many animal charities. The cat food, puppy and dog kibble will be helping hundreds of animals.
