An Unlikely Friendship
Sometimes pets form the most unlikely friendships. Although these do not include a budding relationship between by friend’s working cocker and a rabbit that she almost hunted down in the park this week. I was walking the spaniel when she took off across a field towards what I thought was a small dog on a lead. When I saw the owners quickly grab their pet I was shocked to see that it was a fluffy rabbit!
But dogs can form amazing friendships with all manner of animals. Take Barney the Labrador, for instance. Barney is a lovely Labrador who had an unfortunate start in life. Purchased from a puppy farm, he was then given up to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home after his new owners found that they couldn’t cope with him.
Luckily, Barney was adopted by Head Nurse Rachel Ab’dee as she has quickly fallen in love with him when he arrived at Battersea. Then Ava arrived.
Cute Kitty Ava
Ava the kitten was found freezing and abandoned in a London garden when she was just a few days old. She almost certainly would have died had she not been rushed to Battersea. The kitten was cared for by veterinary nurse Megan Goldring who had to hand feed her every two hours. Whilst at the centre, Ava met Barney and the two soon formed an unbreakable bond.
Barney decided to take on caring for the tiny kitten and let the adorable Ava sleep in his bed, rest on his paws and play with his tail. He proceeded to spend every day playing and snuggling with Ava and keeping her safe. Apparently, Barney can’t wait to get to Battersea in the morning so he can see his diminutive playmate.
The kitten is also very happy with the arrangement as she would otherwise be all alone. She has a great friend and carer to keep her happy at the centre. The staff at Battersea are rather hoping that Ava will become a permanent fixture so they can enjoy watching the unlikely relationship develop. The furry friends are clearly far too gorgeous together to separate.
In a world in which there is so much bad news to darken your days, it is wonderful to hear such a heart-warming story of friendship and survival against the odds. Somehow, I don’t think that my friend’s dog will be hitting the headlines for befriending the aforementioned rabbit! The dog always completely ignores my cat despite his rather vocal objections to the spaniel’s visits, but rabbits, it would appear, are fair game!
