Sausage-Dog Dog Breed Guide

Sausage-Dog Dog Breed Guide

The Sausage dog or Dachshund is a scent hound dog. These are dogs that have been taught to hunt smaller animals, and they have even been used in the past to find and hunt wild boar. While they are known as Wiener dogs, Doxies and sausage dogs, they are as tough as they are cute!

Dachshunds are excellent family dogs and outstanding as show dogs, so no matter why you choose a sausage dog as your pet pooch, you'll be able to have so much fun. These little pups will keep you on your toes and be loving at the same time. You cannot help but smile when you see "half a dog high and a dog and a half long" trotting along beside you. Their large ears are perfect for hunting out their small animal prey, such as badgers and rabbits!

Cartoonists and toymakers love to emulate the sausage dog because of their cute looks - short bodies and oversized ears make for extremely attractive little dogs! Don't be fooled, though. Their little legs allow them to maneuver through tunnels and dig deep, and their broad bodies prove that they're not a pushover in a hunt. These dogs need plenty of love and affection, but they also need space to run. As hunting dogs require lots of space, don't allow the small size of the Dachshund to fool you into thinking they'd be good apartment dogs!

Choosing a Dachshund for your family pet is a smart choice. They are loyal, stubborn, happy dogs - especially with the right dog agility equipment and food!
