6 Ways Cats Are Easier Than Dogs
Do cats make easier pets than dogs?
Most people know that cats are just a little bit easier to care for than dogs. Dogs need someone with them most of the time, and can get upset if they are left alone too long. They usually need to be entertained and interact with their owners more than cats, although this is just a generalisation, there are a few exceptions to the rule.
Cat and dog owners will often disagree over which pet is best. If you don’t have that much time on your hands and want some flexibility, then a cat might be the easier option for you. Here are some reasons why cats are usually easier than dogs.
2. They are more independent
Cats are far more independent than dogs, and this is a big reason a lot of people prefer to have cats. They are not as much of a tie as dogs. You still need to be around to feed them and give them love, but having a cat certainly provides owners with more freedom. Most cats are perfectly happy disappearing for several hours on end without needing much from their owners.
3. They don’t need you around for most of the day
Cats don’t get worried like dogs do when they are left for long periods. You can’t leave your cat on their own for a couple of days, but you certainly can go out for most of the day. As long as they have access to food, water and shelter, cats should be fine. The majority of dogs can only be left for up to about three hours, any longer and they need to go to the toilet or get very anxious being on their own.
4. They go to the toilet in their litter tray
You have to put a lot of time and effort into toilet training most dogs. Cats quickly learn to do their business in their litter tray. This means you don’t have to pick up their mess as you do with dogs, which isn’t very pleasant. All you have to do is empty their litter tray.
5. They don’t need to be walked
This is one of the main reasons some people opt for cats instead of dogs. Dogs are a huge commitment, and need walking every day. Some dogs need at least a couple of hours of exercise daily, which many people simply cannot provide. Either they don’t have the time or don’t want to have to walk outside every day no matter the weather.
6. They aren’t as noisy as dogs
Yes cats can occasionally meow and make some odd noises, but in general, they are not very loud. Not all dogs are noisy, but the majority of dogs will bark. Some dogs relentlessly bark at anything that walks by, or purely for attention.
7. They let themselves in and out
Cats can let themselves in and out through a catflap. This means cat owners don’t have to worry about letting them out. Dogs need to be let out to go to the toilet several times a day, which requires a little more effort.
