5 Things You Can Do To Keep Your Dog Well Socialised

Having a well socialised dog is very important and if you don’t take the time to socialise your dog you could be faced with some challenges. You need to get them used to being around other dogs from an early age, and there are a number of ways in which you can do this. Here are 5 things that you can do to keep your dog well socialised.

1. Puppy Classes

One of the best things you can do to socialise your dog is take them to puppy classes. If you have a rescue dog that is older then there are also lots of dog behaviour classes then can attend. Puppy classes give your dog the chance to meet other dogs in a safe and controlled environment. This will help them to learn social skills and basic obedience around other dogs.

2. Walks At The Park

This is probably one of the easiest things you can do to socialise your dog. If you go to a park where there are lots of dogs regularly then your dog will get used to being around a wide range of different dogs. There will be different breeds and dogs with different temperaments, and your dog will start to learn how to act around each dog they meet. This is where they will learn most of their social skills and get to play off the lead with other dogs.

3. Play Companions

Do you have any friends that have dogs? You can meet up and go for walks so that your dogs can play together and burn off some energy. Then they will get used to seeing each other on a regular basis and it’s an extra chance for your dog to be social with other dogs.

4. Different Situations

Take your dog to lots of different places to get them used to a wide range of environments. They will then learn to meet other dogs under different circumstances and learn how they should behave when you are out and about. This also gets them used to different people, noises and experiences.

5. Take Part In A Dog Sport

There are many different dog sports and activities that your dog can take part in, and many of them are great for socialisation. Take your dog to agility classes where they will perform agility alongside lots of other dogs. Or you could both take part in Cani X, cross country races for dogs and their owners.
