Kitten Food

Good kitten nutrition is hugely important!
Those early stages of life are some of the most important. This goes for cats just as much as it goes for us humans. We want to make sure they grow and develop into healthy, strong, and happy adult cats. In order to achieve that, you need to make sure that you’re feeding them the best foods right from the start. At Time For Paws, we have a huge range of kitten food options. We have healthy complete, nutritious meals available at all price ranges and for all cats. Take a look at the range of products below.
Buying kitten food: what you need to know
Bringing your cute and adorable kitten home for the first time can be incredibly exciting, whether it's your first pet or a welcome new addition. Your new companion will be completely reliant on you when transitioning from his mum's side (or animal shelter) to this strange and scary new world. You'll want him or her to settle into their new surroundings quickly and make themselves at home.
One way to do this is to carry on feeding them the food they've been used to in their previous abode. Changing your kitten's diet suddenly can actually cause them to become ill, and won't do you any favours in terms of winning their affection either. Whilst you might assume he will get bored eating the same food each and every day, he doesn’t care about this. He’s used to what he’s used to, and he would rather you didn't mess with his food!
How to switch food
If you're keen to switch to a Kitten Food recommended by your vet, it's a good idea to do this over a five to seven day period. Your vet can advise you on this. Mix the new food into his normal food, and slowly but surely increase this amount until only the new food is in his bowl. This will allow your kitten (and his digestive system!) to become accustomed to the new kitten food. Kittens have tiny stomachs, and so be sure not to overfeed your new feline friend. He will need small meals often throughout the day. It's a good idea to put fresh food down up to four times a day until he reaches six months old.
Opt for "complete" kitten food
It's important to choose your kitten's food carefully. After all, not all foods are the same, and some have much better quality ingredients in them than others. A "complete" food is usually a good choice, as it will provide him with all the nutrients that he requires to grow and thrive. They're available to buy in various forms, including dry food, or wet food and in pouches or cans. If you're struggling to decide which food to buy, ask your vet. He or she will be able to advise you on which food is best for your kitten.
Whichever you choose, it's essential that you adhere to the feeding guide on the back on the pack. This will help you to ensure that you don't overfeed your kitten.
Cats like milk, right?
Contrary to popular belief, kittens don't require milk as part of a healthy diet. In fact, for some kittens, cows' milk can cause diarrhoea – not nice for them or you! So, if you do want to treat him to some tasty milk, it's best to buy milk that's been specially formulated for cats. There should also be a bowl of fresh water available if he's eating dry, crunchy food. at all times. It's important that your kitten drinks enough, especially if he is eating dry food.

The importance of choosing the best kitten food for your kitty
It’s not wise to start feeding a kitten adult cat food as soon as you welcome them to your home. If they haven’t already been weaned, then you will need to choose milk or milk powder products until they’re ready to start eating solid foods. Even when that is the case, a kitten’s nutritional needs are very different from an adult cat’s.
At Time for Paws, we do everything we can to offer nutritious and tasty foods for growing kittens. As such, we offer foods from brands that have tested their products and found them completely safe. We also look at calories in each food, and overall nutritious balance, ensure that we provide only complete meals.
